The use of wind energy in daily life

The use of wind energy in daily life

Wind Energy is one of the renewable sources of energy. It can be replenished over time. Earth is the natural source of wind energy. It is environmentally free from pollutants and is useful in daily life as it can be converted into another renewable form of energy like hydroelectricity and tidal energy. So what are the uses of wind energy in daily life? Following listed are some of the principal applications of Wind Energy in daily life-

Wind Energy in Daily Life

Wind Energy is one of the most useful forms of renewable energy available to use. Following are some of the most important uses of Wind Energy-

Generate Electricity

Wind Energy is used to generate electricity. In conventional forms, electricity is produced through non-renewable items like coal and petroleum. The items are burned and the heat energy which is generated is used to form electrical energy. This energy is further used to light up the home appliances and used for commercial purposes like running refrigerators, air-conditioners and television sets. However, the problem with non-renewable items like coal and petroleum is that it releases a massive amount of harmful effluents in the form of toxic gaseous waste like carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and methane. This leads to air pollution causing significant damage to the sustainable natural environment. To prevent this wind energy is used. Turbines are one of the most potent instruments to convert wind energy to electrical energy. As the turbines rotate, the energy is tapped from the winds and is converted into electrical energy. This energy can be used as an alternative source to run tidal power plants and commercial appliances at home and offices.

Wind sport

Wind sports refer to the sports that can be associated with the application of wind energy. Wind Sports involve a parafoil which is shaped in the form of a ski or boat. The boats can be operated on the surfaces of water bodies like ice rings, oceans and seas. Wind Sports are heavily dependent on the speed of the winds which are instrumental in moving the items from one place to another. Since it does not involve any petroleum or fuel to charge the items, it is considered a renewable source of operation. Therefore it is environment friendly and promotes the objectives of the Green Tribunal. The different forms of wind sports associated with the application of wind energy include kite boating, kite flying, kite landboarding, kite jumping, kite surfing, kite buggy, kite skating, windsurfing, land sailing, sailing, snowkiting and sail biking.

Powered Vehicles

Wind Turbines are the chief proponents that are used for generating power that is ultimately used to run the turbines and help in the locomotion of powered vehicles. The wind energy generated from the movement of the turbines helps in getting converted to mechanical energy through the different engine belts and rotators. The mechanical energy thus generated helps in the locomotion of the vehicles thereby assisting the process of energy conversion. Therefore since the process deals with renewable energy resources, the chance of pollution or effluent emission is much less. Wind-powered vehicles include vent mobile, the spirit of Amsterdam, green bird and blackbird.

Powered Water Pumps

The application of converting wind energy into hydroelectric and tidal energy is used in running underground water pumps. Previously it was seen that the windmills and turbines were used to generate electrical energy through the movement of the windmills and turbines. But in this case, the wind-generated through the windmills were used to pump out the water below the surface. This was useful for villages suffering from scarcity of surface water. This is also feasible in areas that are located far-off from the rivers and therefore need water to resolve their daily activities like washing clothes and utensils and drinking fresh water which is not subjected to salvation. The underground water pumps which operate based on the wind energy generated by the turbines and windmills have been active in village areas as well as cities for decades now.

Powered Sea Ships

Wind energy is used to power the sailing ships in the sea. The wind was used as an abundant power and energy resource. This was used to power small boats and ships which would run on turbine-powered machines. Nowadays, however, cargo ships are run with a huge kite attached to their base. As the kite rotates, wind energy is generated which helps in the process of moving the boats from one place to another. So with this energy dramatically reduced both fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emission.

Wind Energy- MLRIT

MLRIT being one of the biggest private engineering institutes in the country also has several departments teaching the applications of hydroelectricity and tidal energy. Engineers can study the applications and design the instruments associated with wind energy- a non-renewable resource of energy.

Summary

Wind Energy has therefore been dubbed as one of the most useful and important resources of renewable energy. The energy source can further be used for generating power in different types of machinery by converting it into electrical energy, which can help in the running of speed boats and ships through conversion from wind energy or tidal energy into mechanical energy.
